sick and snow

journal page, originally uploaded by nora_gardner.

it snowed down sludge and it's cold and windy today.... and I am sick. I have been for a couple days now and it's a nasty snotty disgusting cold. I feel like someone stuffed a baseball up my nose.... it's both totally stuffed up and dribbling... gross.

On the bright side, I got to do this little sick self portrait with a nice new W&N series 7 kolinsky brush.... I have been slowly replacing all my lousy old worn out brushes (synthetics and blends mostly) with good brushes and I must say, I do love a good brush.... especially in teeny tiny sizes like size 2 and down, it's nice to have brushes that will actually carry a bit of paint even in a very small size.

I made a few valentine postcards for my daughters today too... I will drop them in the mail later today... they are always so thrilled to get mail of their very own :)

Aw, poor baby ... if I were there I would make you some nice tea with honey and a big pot of delicious chicken soup. Since I'm not, I'll just tell you that I love your journal page, the valentines are very cute and your daughters will love them, and this too shall pass. :) nancy

I do hope your cold is soon gone. You wil be able to remember the misery every time you look at your sketch! Good job you painted your lovely brush as well!

The thing about good paper is the cost...on the other hand, an expensive large sheet can be cut down to 8 smaller sheets (or not)! The thing about good brushes is that they last and last, and they carry all that soupy wash so beautifully. and your journal page is amazing - to be ill and still manage to capture an image with this delicacy is very impressive! Great job! Hope you're better today :)

I can relate! I just have a nasty cold behind me. Here in Austria it's snowing like crazy - and in the city most of the beautiful snow just becomes sludge. Yuck!

Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog! I have an ibrik too but never use it (can't be bothered and the coffee never gets nearly as good as the "real thing". I must be doing it wrong.). Also, it's useless for drawing since it's very simple and looks like a slightly misshapen little pot. Just another good excuse to go to my favorite café :) Over time, I might sketch their whole inventory...

I just started to look through your blog, I love your pictures, can't wait to see more!

Wonderful portrait! It gave me a laugh; with the mouth slightly open, it is obvious you can't breathe through your nose! Love the journal page, and your daughters will be so happy to get their mail!

Great self portrait and painting of the brush! Very expressive (sniff, sniff). I like the Valentines too. You are a thoughtful mamma!

So sorry to hear about your cold. I hate them, too. Great self portrait tho, love the look. Sweet valentines for your kids. :)

This is a beautiful page - so well done. Love the face of the child, and the brush. Clever that you talk about yourself as a child, and that's what you draw. The cards are very touching. Feel better soon!

Thanks to everyone for your very kind comments! :)

I am getting better... my poor nose is not as red and their are not tissues all over the house now!

Dan, so funny that you think the self portrait looks like a child... I have looked exactly the same since I was about 12... people comment on it... and now at almost 30 it's getting a little ridiculous how much I look like a 14 year old! I still get carded at liquor stores, even with my 7 year old in tow! Someday I really hope I look like an actual grown-up!
